Hawthorne man gets 24 years for gallons of PCP

A federal judge in Santa Ana has sentenced an L.A. County man to 24 years in prison for possessing about 17 million doses of PCP.
Clifford Oliver, 38, of Hawthorne was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in December to possession with intent to distribute PCP, or phencyclidine, said Assistant U.S. Atty. Gregory Staples.
Another defendant in the case, Taylor Wright, 41, of Ladera Ranch, was sentenced last month to 15 years in prison.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigators built the case against the two men after a janitor reported smelling a strange chemical odor near Wright’s apartment in 2005, Staples said.
With the help of a specialist on illicit drug labs, law enforcement officers obtained a search warrant and found 14 gallons of highly concentrated PCP liquid stored in plastic juice bottles in Oliver’s garage.
