Sheriff’s worker held in gun thefts

A part-time employee of the Kern County Sheriff’s Department has been charged in connection with the disappearance of 20 handguns from the department’s property room, authorities said.
Edgard Nava, 18, has pleaded not guilty to grand theft charges. Nava and two other men were taken into custody after it was discovered that the guns were missing.
The thefts are believed to have happened over the last six weeks. Nava was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
