Washburn hit hard in debut for Tigers

DETROIT — Jarrod Washburn’s debut with the Detroit Tigers was forgettable.
Washburn gave up six runs (a season high) and six hits in 5 1/3 innings as Baltimore routed Detroit 8-2 on Tuesday night.
“I was terrible,” Washburn said.
He also admitted that he was a little more nervous than usual because he wanted to get off to a good start with his new team.
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland isn’t worried about Washburn.
“He was rusty. You could see his command wasn’t there,” Leyland said.
“He’s not going to be an issue for us. He’s going to be good for us. We have other things much worse than that.”
