It’s back to the original English for some of the lyrics in the hit Broadway revival of “West Side Story.”
Two of show’s songs, “A Boy Like That” and “I Feel Pretty,” had been sung in Spanish in the current production, which opened in March at the Palace Theatre. Now both numbers, which feature lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, will be performed mostly in English.
Director Arthur Laurents, who also wrote the show’s book, said the Spanish translation had been an experiment, “an ongoing process of finding what worked and what didn’t.”
