Kenya’s sick hospitals

Re “Hospitals as debtors’ prisons,” June 28
Keeping women who can’t pay their hospital bills in virtual lock-up at the hospital itself would seem to be counterproductive. It costs the hospital and deprives the women of any chance of income-earning. Kenya is on its way to a population disaster. This will exacerbate the challenges of reducing poverty and of providing education, health, energy, food, water and stability to its people, particularly to its women.
