A veteran Los Angeles County teacher has admitted to killing his wife “with his bare hands” while they were aboard a cruise ship to Mexico, according to documents filed in San Diego federal court by the U.S. attorney’s office.
Robert McGill, 55, was arraigned Friday on a charge of murdering his wife, Shirley, also 55, while they were aboard the Carnival Cruise ship Elation on a five-day trip to Cabo San Lucas. McGill admitted the killing to FBI agents, according to the documents.
McGill is a longtime teacher for the Los Angeles County Office of Education. His wife recently retired from the Department of Motor Vehicles in Canoga Park.
Married in 2003, the couple lived in Winnetka in the San Fernando Valley. McGill was arrested when the ship docked Thursday in San Diego.
