Cubs rally to win, trail by two games

WASHINGTON — Alfonso Soriano hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth, his first homer in almost six weeks, and the Chicago Cubs rallied and then held to beat the Washington Nationals, 6-5, on Saturday night.

Soriano’s 15th homer off rookie Jordan Zimmermann erased a 4-2 Washington lead. It was his first home run since June 7, a span of 121 at-bats.

Randy Wells (5-4) started in place of Ted Lilly, who had a sore left knee, and got the win in a victory that moved Chicago to within two games of first-place St. Louis in the NL Central.

Washington is 0-3 under interim Manager Jim Riggleman, who took over when Manny Acta was fired Monday. The Nationals, who couldn’t protect a 4-0 lead, have lost four straight.
