Red Sox sweep Tigers

Boston 6, at Detroit 3: Jason Bay’s bases-loaded double keyed a six-run third inning and the Red Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Tigers. Tim Wakefield (7-3) has beaten Detroit 16 times, more than any other active pitcher.
at New York 8, Texas 6: Melky Cabrera hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning and the Yankees overcame yet another poor start by Chien-Ming Wang to beat the Rangers. Wang gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
at Minnesota 11, Cleveland 3: Jason Kubel hit a pair of three-run homers to back Scott Baker, who pitched seven effective innings for the Twins. Kubel’s first homer capped a four-run first inning against Fausto Carmona and his second blast an inning later gave Minnesota a 7-0 lead.
Oakland 7, at Chicago 0: Jason Giambi hit a three-run homer and Brett Anderson scattered six hits over seven innings for the A’s. The White Sox were shut out for the major league-worst eighth time this season, twice with Mark Buehrle on the mound.
Angels 6, at Toronto 5: The Angels won two of three at the Rogers Centre.
