A San Diego man has been sentenced to 120 days in jail after pleading guilty to poaching undersized lobsters in the waters off Mission Beach, City Atty. Jan Goldsmith said Monday.
Jason Bryan Chavez was caught with 46 lobsters in the trunk of his car about 2 a.m. May 18, when a San Diego police officer spotted him “acting suspiciously,” Goldsmith said.
The lobsters were returned to the ocean by San Diego lifeguards. The incident was Chavez’s second conviction for lobster poaching, Goldsmith said.
Of the 120 days, 30 will be suspended if Chavez complies with the terms of his probation.
