WORLD BRIEFING / MEXICO

Police in southern Mexico have found the body of a local security official accompanied by threatening messages apparently left by members of a drug gang.
The victim was identified as Rolando Landa, head of security in the township of La Union, near the Pacific beach town of Zihuatanejo. Guerrero state police said Landa was shot in the head, wrapped in a blanket and left in a car.
Messages written in marker on the vehicle included insults and threats to nine people. One was signed “F.M.,” an apparent reference to the Familia Michoacana drug gang.
Last month, two town councilwomen were shot to death in Guadalupe.
