Film festival launch celebration

When, where: Friday, Saturday and Nov. 14, various venues in Napa and St. Helena

Highlights: Celebrate the launch of the Napa Valley Film Festival, debuting in November 2011, with three days of film and epicurean events.

Cost: Varies by event.

When, where: Nov. 18-21, Left Space Studios

Highlights: The worldwide festival’s only U.S. stop promises workshops, talks, studio shoots, book signings and gallery exhibitions.

Cost: $30; $15 for students. Additional fee for portfolio reviews and certain workshops.

When, where: Nov. 19-21, Red Lion Hotel

Highlights: Ornately decorated trees and holiday displays for public viewing, followed by a gala benefit dinner and auction. Other attractions include live entertainment and pictures with Santa Claus.

Cost: $2; $1 for children; dinner and auction, $130.

When, where: Nov. 29 to Dec. 5, various venues

Highlights: Fans of Cirque du Soleil can take in seven of its shows on the Strip, as well as attend a welcome reception, take advantage of photo ops, listen in on question-and-answer sessions, and view technology demonstrations.

Cost: Packages range from two shows for $160 to seven shows and autographed programs for $445.
