The Times’ top 25 high school football teams

1. SERVITE (14-1, SS-Pac-5). Flawless for 14 games, Friars were perfectly awful in 40-point bowl loss.

2. CORONA CENTENNIAL (14-1, SS-Inland). There was less saving, less doing for Huskies at the Home Depot Center.

3. MISSION VIEJO (13-1, SS-Pac-5). Angel Stadium holds few special memories for Diablos, or Angels, in 2010.

4. GARDENA SERRA (14-1, SS-Western). Playing as the underdog for the first time, Cavaliers rolled over against Folsom.

5. ALEMANY (12-1, SS-Pac-5). As debuts go, Warriors’ first season in Pac-5 ranked up there with Magic Johnson’s rookie year.

6. OAKS CHRISTIAN (12-2, SS-Northern). “Remember the Alemany” mantra worked wonders as Lions won 12 of next 13 games.

7. WESTLAKE (12-2, SS-Northern). With the ball — and the season — up in the air, missed field goal couldn’t provide storybook ending.

8. ST. BONAVENTURE (11-2, SS-Northern). Seraphs want a rubber game with Westlake in school parking lot.

9. CRENSHAW (12-2, City-Division I). Cougars turned Coliseum into the “C House” for a second consecutive year.

10. SANTA MAGARITA (9-3, SS-Pac-5). Harry Welch proved more resourceful than MacGyver with young Eagles.

11. VISTA MURRIETA (12-2, SS-Inland). File Broncos’ 24-point title-game loss under heading “So close and yet so far.”

12. MATER DEI (8-5, SS-Pac-5). Monarchs can make claim as best five-loss football team in Southern Section history.

13. CHINO HILLS (10-3, SS-Inland). Huskies’ claim to fame is being first to lead Corona Centennial past the first quarter.

14. TESORO (8-4, SS-Pac-5). Titans had more peaks and valleys this season than Coney Island’s Cyclone.

15. BISHOP AMAT (9-2, SS-Pac-5). Fred Willard wanted to know “Wha’ happened?” when fourth-seeded Lancers lost in first round.

16. CRESPI (8-4, SS-Pac-5). First playoff victory since 2007 means Celts fans won’t grouse … until at least September.

17. VALENCIA (11-2, SS-Northern). Third semifinal appearance in three years was charmless.

18. LONG BEACH POLY (8-3, SS-Pac-5). Early playoff exit against nemesis Mater Dei gets Jackrabbits fans hopping mad.

19. LAKEWOOD (10-2, SS-Pac-5). Lancers hope it’s not going to take another 27 years to beat Long Beach Poly again.

20. CARSON (11-3, City-Division I). Eight turnovers against Crenshaw had Colts followers yelling “Enough!”

21. SAN CLEMENTE (8-3, SS-Pac-5). Eternal bridesmaids in the South Coast League, Tritons are ready to walk down the aisle.

22. RANCHO CUCAMONGA (11-2, SS-Inland). It really was the longest yard for Cougars in second overtime against Vista Murrieta.

23. CORONA ROOSEVELT (9-3, SS-Inland). City title might mean as much as a section championship, if Mustangs can win it.

24. ARROYO GRANDE (11-3, SS-Western). Eagles connect on a 51-yard field goal against Gardena Serra but otherwise come up mostly empty.

25. WEST COVINA (13-1, SS-Southeast). Bulldogs satisfy as many in San Gabriel Valley as all the Chinese restaurants do.
