Massive San Francisco penthouse aims for record $41 million

Atop a 56-story skyscraper in San Francisco, an 8,482-square-foot penthouse just listed for a whopping $41 million.

Should it get its asking price, the condo will be the city’s most expensive home ever sold, edging out a 12,000-square-foot spec house that fetched $38 million two years ago in Pacific Heights.

The penthouse, which spans the entire floor, sits over 600 feet above street level. It’s found in the Avery, a glass tower recently built by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Rem Koolhaas and his firm OMA.

The floor plan offers four bedrooms, six bathrooms, two powder rooms, formal living and dining rooms and a family room. In the master suite, there are dual bathrooms and walk-in closets. A pair of lounges take in city views through walls of glass.

Elsewhere, amenities include a library, gym, sauna and media room — as well as a colossal rooftop deck up above. Adding 1,580 square feet, the rooftop space takes in panoramic views of the water and city through double-height glass windows. The buyer will be able to customize the space to their liking.

The Avery sits near the Transbay Transit Center a few blocks from San Francisco Bay. It offers a 60-foot swimming pool, gym, game room and white-glove moving services, as well as a lobby awash in Portuguese limestone and bronze finishes.
