Tom Hicks, the Dallas financier who once owned the Dallas Stars, Liverpool F.C. and Texas Rangers sports franchises, has quietly closed sale on a home in La Jolla for $1.89 million.
The 1950 residence occupies a corner lot within walking distance of La Jolla Bay, making it an ideal tear-down candidate. A single-story floor plan has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms in 1,661 square feet of living space.
Hicks, 68, amassed a billion-dollar fortune in the leverage buyout industry. He previously owned the NHL’s Dallas Stars, MLB’s Texas Rangers and a 50% stake in the English Premier League’s Liverpool soccer club.
The businessman previously made real estate headlines in 2013 when his Preston Hollow residence known as the Crespi-Hicks estate was marketed off the Multiple Listing Service at $135 million. Found in Mayflower Estates, the 25-acre compound includes a five-story main house, a two-story guest house and a three-story pool house that combine to offer 42,500 square feet of living space.
Property records show that Hicks and his wife, Cinda, own a second, oceanfront property in La Jolla that they purchased in 1994 for $1.875 million.
