Placido Domingo to sing on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Placido Domingo is taking time out of his operatic schedule this week to appear on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” But fans hoping to see the tenor demonstrate some fancy footwork will be disappointed. Domingo is only expected to sing on the live telecast Tuesday.

The Spanish tenor will perform “Come What May” -- from the 2001 movie “Moulin Rouge” -- in a duet with Katherine Jenkins. The number is part of his new album, “Songs,” in which Domingo performs a series of popular tunes.

Tuesday’s telecast, featuring the results from round two of the reality competition series, is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Last week, former “Baywatch” star Pamela Anderson was voted off the show.

The remaining contestants of the all-star season include Bristol Palin, Joey Fatone, Kirstie Alley, Apolo Ohno, Drew Lachey, Emmitt Smith, Gilles Marini, Helio Castroneves, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft, Sabrina Bryan and Shawn Johnson.

Domingo is currently appearing in Verdi’s “The Two Foscari” at L.A. Opera. On Monday, he’s set to head to Costa Mesa to perform a concert version of the opera at the the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The next performance of “Foscari” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is set for Sunday at 2 p.m.

Domingo currently serves as general director of L.A. Opera.
