‘Mary Poppins’ at LACMA, ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ at Skirball

In the ever-changing landscape of Los Angeles, there’s one longtime tradition that remains: The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Tuesday matinee at the Bing Theater. The matinee screenings attract both a senior crowd with its $2 admission as well as younger audiences who pay just $4 to see classic and art house films. This Tuesday, the matinee features the 1964 Walt Disney favorite “Mary Poppins.” Upcoming screenings include two Chaplin silent masterpieces on July 22 — 1921’s “The Kid” and 1928’s “The Circus.” The Skirball Cultural Center also offers occasional free Tuesday matinees. Its summer series, “Classic Films: For a Song,” features 1948’s “Easter Parade” (Tuesday), 1971’s “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” (Aug. 5) and 1963’s “Bye Bye Birdie (Aug. 12).
