‘Gatsby’ soundtrack to feature Jay-Z, Lana del Rey, The xx and more

Jay-Z has long called himself the new Sinatra, but now he might be on a Fitzgerald-identifying kick as well.
The rapper-mogul is executive-producing Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of the classic novel of class-strivers and myth-making, and fans wondered how his musical sensibilities would inform the film. On Thursday, Interscope Records released the track list for the film’s official soundtrack, and it’s a mix of top-shelf indie, regal hip-hop and neo-jazz interludes.
Highlights include Beyonce and Andre 3000’s cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black”; several tracks by Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry and the Bryan Ferry Orchestra; and the kickoff single from Lana del Rey “Young and Beautiful,” which she wrote with Luhrmann collaborating.

Other notable acts appearing include Gotye, Jack White, Florence + the Machine, The xx and Jay-Z’s own “100$ Bill.”
The soundtrack is to be officially released May 7, with a deluxe edition featuring three extra tracks as a Target exclusive. The full soundtrack is below, and it seems Jay-Z was not kidding about being an indie rock fan and Coachella-band kingmaker. But few artists have as much credibility about rising in New York society on the strength of a persona, and we’re waiting intently to see how his vision plays out in the film.
