Chipotle is bringing its customizable burritos and bowls to South Los Angeles. The burrito chain has announced it will open its first location in Compton on Thursday.
The company is hiring around 25 crew members for the location, opening on Alameda Street near East Artesia Boulevard.
“In recent history, South-Central has been considered a food desert when it comes to accessibility to healthy dining options,” said Chris Arnold, Chipotle director of communications, in a statement. “Opening a Chipotle restaurant is one small part of the puzzle, but we hope that it represents a positive change for the neighborhood.”
Chipotle also has locations in nearby Lakewood and Gardena. The Compton restaurant will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The burrito chain made headlines late last year when it announced it would raise prices in 2014 to cope with the cost of not serving genetically modified foods.
