‘Bakers Will Bake’ sale will benefit Larchmont’s Edible Schoolyard

On June 9, a dozen of Los Angeles’ best known pastry chefs will meet, some of them for the first time, to host the first “Bakers will Bake” Bake Sale to benefit Larchmont’s Edible Schoolyard.

The pastry chefs include Roxana Jullapat from Cooks County, Shannon Swindle from Craft LA, Hourie Sahakian from Short Cake, Ann Kirk from Little Dom’s, Christine Moore from Little Flower Candy Co., Clemence Gosset from The Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories, Zoe Nathan from Huckleberry, John Murphy from Red Hill, Elizabeth Belkind from Cake Monkey, Na Young Ma from Proof Bakery, Christina Olufson from Tavern, and Nicole Mournian from Gjelina.

They’ll be baking some of their favorite pastries to sell at the Hollywood Farmers’ Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 9. Not only is this a chance to try great pastries and meet some terrific cooks, but you will also be helping the Edible Schoolyard Project, as 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Larchmont Charter School’s chapter.

The Edible Schoolyard, an education program, spearheaded by Alice Waters, encourages stewardship and an awareness and appreciation of food by incorporating gardening and food preparation into the curriculum. Jullapat, the bake sale’s organizer, has been a volunteer teacher at Larchmont’s Edible Schoolyard since 2010 and teaches children to make pastries and salads from their own, school-grown produce.
