A Bellflower man was killed Monday in a standoff with deputies at his home, where he reportedly held his girlfriend captive, officials said.
Deputies were trying to get the man to surrender peacefully, when he was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
It was unclear whether the man was armed, she said. His girlfriend was not injured during the more than six-hour standoff.
Deputies received a disturbance call about 5:30 a.m. that the man was refusing to allow his girlfriend to leave his home in the 8800 block of Artesia Boulevard, Nishida said.
Soon after, SWAT and crisis negotiators arrived at the home and attempted to talk to the man.
Several residents were evacuated during the standoff for their safety.
