Whale carcass reported offshore near Hermosa Beach

The 20-foot carcass of a gray whale is floating about 500 yards off the shore of the southern end of Hermosa Beach, officials said Monday night.
Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards noticed the carcass Monday afternoon and will monitor its position as officials begin investigating what killed the whale.
The National Marine Fisheries Service, an office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, has been contacted to determine next steps.
