Coldwater Canyon opens early to traffic after monthlong closure

A monthlong closure of Coldwater Canyon Avenue ended a little early Tuesday, as a 2.1-mile stretch of the major artery linking the Westside and San Fernando Valley was again opened to traffic.
Beginning March 23, officials had shut down the popular route -- between Ventura Boulevard and Mulholland Drive -- during business hours as part of a $2-million project to replace half a mile of a 99-year-old water pipe.
One lane was available to traffic at night and on Sundays, but the 1,300 vehicles that typically traveled the road per hour were largely pushed elsewhere.
On Tuesday evening, Department of Water and Power officials announced the road would reopen two days ahead of schedule.
However, left-turn restrictions from Coldwater Canyon onto Ventura Boulevard will linger until June 1 as crews complete “minor work” just south of Ventura, officials said.
