A good lens can last a lifetime with the right care. To capture this image of a bus in downtown Los Angeles, Richard Hammond used a lens he bought about 20 years ago.
To get the effect he was looking for, Hammond shot this image at an exposure of 1/15 of a second, just long enough to blur most of the frame while allowing the front of the bus to stay sharp.
“The idea to blur this picture came from another picture I shot of the bus at 1/8 of a second,” he said. “I called that picture ‘3rd street at night.’”
Hammond used a Nikon D800 with a 24mm lens to make this image.
