Children’s bodies found in Detroit freezer; mother being questioned

The bodies of two children were discovered in a freezer in Detroit on Tuesday morning, and police have detained the victims’ mother for questioning, police said.
A bailiff was performing an eviction at a home on the east side of the city about 10:45 a.m. when he discovered the body of a girl in a freezer, Detroit Police said in a statement.
The body of a boy was also found, police said.
The boy was 11 and the girl was 14, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. The bodies were found in a plastic bag in the freezer and had been frozen for “some time,” the report said.
Investigators found the children’s mother at a separate location, and she was detained for questioning, police said.
Officer Dan Robinson, a Detroit police spokesman, told the Los Angeles Times that the bodies were recovered from a “deep freezer,” which he described as large and almost “like a chest.” He would not confirm the victims’ ages, describing them only as “juveniles.”
Police have yet to determine a cause of death, and Robinson said it was not clear if anyone was home when the bailiff discovered the bodies. He also said it was unclear if the mother had any other children, or if they had been taken into protective custody.
