Letters: A hard comeback for Hollywood

Re “Reaching high in Hollywood,” Editorial, April 4

In 2001, I brought an Urban Land Institute expert panel to Hollywood aimed at spurring redevelopment. The panel report recommended, among other things, updating the community plan, leveraging the power of mass transit and building higher density developments near transit.

In 2006, a New York-based group purchased the Capitol Records building and adjacent surface parking lots. In 2012, an updated Hollywood Community Plan was approved. Comebacks are difficult, and controversy surrounds both the new Hollywood Community Plan and the Millennium Hollywood mixed-use project. But Hollywood’s comeback as envisioned by the report will be difficult but necessary.
