Letters: Saving CEQA

Re “Brown seeks environment law fixes,” April 18

If Gov. Jerry Brown is really going to let the “bulldozers roll,” then the rest of us need to protect the California Environmental Quality Act. CEQA is California’s most powerful and important environmental law.

With massive new fracking proposals on the horizon, a flawed high-speed rail proposal that puts farmlands in danger and the governor’s plan to ship massive amounts of water around the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, now is not the time to weaken environmental review procedures.

Brown’s changes to CEQA would reduce public participation and undermine environmental protection.

I’m sorry to see him headed in the wrong direction. We need to strengthen CEQA, not weaken it.
