Readers React: Californians hired Kamala Harris to be their senator, not a presidential candidate

To the editor: Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) tossed her hat into the 2020 presidential ring barely more than two years after first being elected to the U.S. Senate.
To date, Harris has accomplished nothing noteworthy as a senator. She has no chance of winning in the next presidential election, so I can only conclude her candidacy is a political ploy to increase her name recognition in preparation for a run in 2024.
Thanks a lot, Sen. Harris. I voted for you to represent California for the next six years, not to further your political career. No wonder I and so many others are disgusted with politicians.

To the editor: How rightful and inspiring that Harris announced her candidacy for president on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Finally, a politically experienced woman of color will represent our diverse country and our values in the 2020 campaign. Let’s hope that the era of old, white, rich men, solidly aligned with wealthy special interests, is over.
Harris is the antithesis of our current president, a vulgar, unqualified, chronic liar. To the small-minded men who claim it’s not yet time for a woman president, let alone a woman of color, we say: Just watch us.
