Couple files claims after bike spill

A Tustin couple has filed two claims against Huntington Beach seeking more than $10,000 after the wife suffered an injury falling off her bicycle.
The claims from Gerald and Darlene Elizabeth Goens, which the city received Nov. 9, say the wife was riding on the bike path near the Beach Hut at 21529 Pacific Coast Hwy. on July 17 when her wheel became stuck in a crevice in the ground.
Darlene Goens, 62, was thrown from her bicycle and suffered a fractured tibia and fibula, according to her claim. Her husband has also filed a claim citing emotional distress and loss of consortium.
The claims argue that the city was negligent in either creating or failing to repair the crevice.
City Attorney Jennifer McGrath declined comment on the claim.
