RESTAURANT ROUNDUP:

If the Five Crowns Restaurant’s annual Dickens Dinner goes well next week, there will be no customers approaching the waiter and stammering, “Please, sir, I want some more.”

The Corona del Mar restaurant, which recently held an Elizabethan-style dinner to coincide with Cate Blanchett’s latest turn as Elizabeth I, now plans to move up to the Victorian era with its holiday feast Nov. 23 and 25.

The three-course dinner includes a holiday salad with cranberry vinaigrette, a choice of entrees including roasted prime ribs of beef, roasted goose and fresh salmon, and English Trifle for dessert, along with a choice of tea or coffee.

L.A. Troupe, a group of veteran actors, will reenact scenes from Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” in costume while carolers sing holiday songs.

The Dickens Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. each night, with admission $89 for adults and $45 for children. Call (949) 760-0331 for more information.

Native Southwesterner takes helm of Z’Tejas

The Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill at South Coast Plaza has appointed Travis Miller, an Arizona native and veteran of the restaurant industry, as its general manager.

Miller has served in management positions with P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Ruby Tuesday, as well as other Z’Tejas locations.

At South Coast Plaza, he will supervise 75 employees, oversee the restaurant’s catering operations and prepare seasonal and special menus with Executive Chef Danny Stevens.

“I’m delighted to be part of the vibrant and exciting South Coast Metro community,” Miller said in a release. “Thanks to the generous and philanthropic philosophy encouraged by the Z’Tejas family, our particular location has been able to really get involved with various worthy organizations and as general manager, I intend to continue in that direction.”
