High School Roundup: CdM advances to quarterfinals

SAN DIEGO — Corona del Mar won three straight to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals at Alliant International University Friday.
The No. 6-seeded Sea Kings opened with a 25-17, 25-15 win over Canyon Crest Academy. They then beat Buchanan, 25-15, 25-11. CdM (16-1) closed out the day with a 25-23, 25-23 win over Redondo Union, coached by former CdM head man Darryl Gan.
CdM won its pool in the 32-team tourney.

Sage Hill def. Crean Lutheran
IRVINE — Halland McKenna had 10 kills, seven aces and eight digs to help the Lightning to a 29-27, 25-15, 25-13 Academy League win Friday.
Natasha Sakraney had eight kills and two blocks for Sage (6-5, 4-1 in league).

BOYS’ WATER POLO
El Toro 10, Corona del Mar 8 (OT)
LAKE FOREST — Ben Zepfel had five goals, one steal and one block for the Sea Kings in the nonleague game Friday.
Goalie AJ Santa Maria had seven saves, while Ari Marks (one goal, one assist, four steals), Charlie Howarth (one goal, two assists, one steal), Kyle Trush (one goal, two steals) and Jake Wyatt (one assist, two steals) also contributed for CdM (13-4).

St. Margaret’s 11, Sage Hill 7
SAN CLEMENTE — The No. 1 doubles team of Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley won two sets for the Lightning in the key Academy League match Friday.
Casey Astorino and Lauren Hsu won two sets at No. 2 doubles for Sage Hill (8-4, 4-2 in league).
