White Sox’s top draft picks from last 10 years
A standout at Oregon State, the White Sox selected Nick Madrigal with the No. 4 pick in 2018. He began the 2019 season playing for the Class A Winston-Salem Dash.

A look at the White Sox’s top draft picks from the last 10 years and where they are now.
Burger, a third baseman, was the Sox’s first pick in the 2017 draft, 11th overall. He ruptured his left Achilles tendon in February at spring training, then re-injured it in May. He will miss the rest of the 2018 season.

(Lou Foglia / Chicago Tribune)Burdi, a right-handed pitcher out of Louisville, was the 26th pick in the 2016 draft. He’s now with the Sox’s Triple-A Charlotte Knights.
(John J. Kim / Chicago Tribune)Fulmer, a right-handed pitcher out of Vanderbilt, was the No. 8 pick in 2015. He was called up in 2016. In May, he was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte after another shaky start.

Hawkins, an outfielder, was the 13th pick in 2012 out of Carroll High School in Texas. Hawkins has never made it to the majors. He’s now with the Sugar Land (Texas) Skeeters in the independent Atlantic League.
(Brian Cassella / Chicago Tribune)The Sox made Walker, an outfielder out of Central Arizona College, their top pick in 2011 (47th overall). He has never reached the majors. The Sox cut him in 2017 and he now plays for the Lancaster (Penn.) Barnstomers in the independent Atlantic League.
(Gary Middendorf / Daily Southtown)Sale, out of Florida Gulf Coast, was the 13th pick in the 2010 draft. Two months later he became the fifth player ever to play the same year he was drafted. He finished his rookie season 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA, 32 strikeouts and four saves. He was traded to the Red Sox on Dec. 6, 2016.
(Michael Dwyer / AP)Petricka was the 63rd pick out of Indiana State in 2009. From 2013 to 2017, he appeared in 181 games for the Sox with a 3.84 ERA. After the team decided not to sign him in 2017, he joined the Blue Jays.

Outfielder Mitchell, out of LSU, was the Sox’s top pick and 23rd overall in 2009. He played in the Sox system at Class A Winston-Salem and Kannapolis, Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte but never made the majors. Mitchell now plays for the York (Penn.) Revolution in the independent Atlantic League.
(Scott Strazzante / Chicago Tribune)The Sox made infielder Beckham their top pick in 2008, eighth overall, out of the University of Georgia. He came up to the majors in 2009 and stayed for seven years (.242 batting average) until he was traded to the Angels in 2014. He’s now with the Mariners.
