Update: Ducks Coach Bruce Boudreau typically stays with a winning goalie and might go back to Frederik Andersen after he won Saturday in his first game since Nov. 21. Andersen ceded the net to John Gibson because of illness but didn’t have much rust in a 2-1 victory against New Jersey.
He joined Chris Osgood and Antti Niemi as the only goalies who have debuted in the last 30 years to win at least 60 of their first 100 games.
Boudreau reunited Patrick Maroon on the top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry in order to channel some of their spark from last season’s playoffs, and Rickard Rakell went back to his third-line center role.
The Islanders have lost three games in a row and scored two goals in that span after an 8-0-2 run. Scoring leader Kyle Okposo is expected to sit out because of a lower-body injury.
The Ducks recalled left wing Max Friberg. Center Nate Thompson has one game left on his three-game suspension and Anaheim previously did not have a spare forward.
The Ducks play again Tuesday at the New York Rangers before the NHL’s Christmas break.
