Baseball: Jack Flaherty is the pitcher to beat in 2014
Harvard-Westlake, Monarchs compete in winter game

Jack Flaherty went 13-0 in 2013 and helped Harvard-Westlake win the Southern Section Division 1 championship. He’s back for his senior year, and on Saturday in a winter game against Mater Dei, Flaherty gave no indication he’s going to be any easier to defeat in 2014.
His fastball reached 91 mph. He allowed one run and two hits in three innings while striking out two.
Mater Dei’s starting pitcher was Chuck Vorsheck, a Notre Dame signee who struck out Flaherty in the first inning. Vorsheck and highly touted freshman Nick Pratto, a left-hander, should give the Monarchs a very good one-two pitching punch.
Harvard-Westlake won the first game, 3-1, and the second game, 5-0.
