Basketball: Consolation finals in Open Division are Friday
- Share via
There will be no banner given to the winning team on Friday when the consolation finals are held in the new Southern Section Open Division playoffs. The winning team is guaranteed a spot in the state playoffs, but in reality, all four teams playing are expected to be in the state tournament.
The boys’ final matches Bishop Montgomery at Sierra Canyon. The girls’ final matches Lynwood at Alemany. All four teams lost their opening games of the Open Division playoffs and haven’t lost since.
The quality of basketball should be outstanding. The Bishop Montgomery-Sierra Canyon game could be a preview of top teams for next season, since both schools are loaded with young players. It’s also expected to enable the winner to gain the No. 1 seed in Division IV for the Southern California Regionals.
