Basketball: Gold Coast League tournament begins on Feb. 7
- Share via
There have been some great games in the Gold Coast League this season. No. 1 Sierra Canyon barely held off Campbell Hall in overtime. Windward won games in the final seconds over Viewpoint and Campbell Hall. Brentwood knocked off Windward.
But the best may be yet to come.
The Gold Coast League is holding a tournament to decide its league champion in boys’ and girls’ basketball. Starting on Feb. 7, eight teams will be seeded and begin their tournament. The semifinals will be Feb. 10 and the championship games will be Feb. 12 at Viewpoint. The girls’ game is at 5 p.m. and boys’ final at 7:30 p.m.
Both tournaments could have major ramifications for the Southern Section playoffs, because several schools are candidates to be chosen for the Open Division.
Sierra Canyon’s boys’ team is facing a big challenge in the coming week. The Trailblazers face No. 2 Fairfax on Saturday, will play Virginia’s Oak Hill on Feb. 6 in the Nike Extravaganza, then have to come back the next day and begin the tournament.
It will be fun to watch for fans.
