Boys’ basketball: Tough schedule prepared Loyola for Mission League
- Share via
While four losses in its last five games might have caused some concern from Loyola High fans, the competition more than prepared the Cubs for their Mission League opener on Wednesday, a criticial 63-59 road victory over Chaminade.
See what a few good practices can do for a team?
Max Hazzard had 18 points and Henry Welsh made some clutch free throws and finished with 11 points and 17 rebounds.
Even though Loyola (9-5, 1-0) had been losing, look at the teams the Cubs were falling to: Windward, Bellevue, Redondo and Cantwell-Sacred Heart. It also didn’t help that the Cubs were without several players.
Another team that benefited from a tough nonleague schedule was Crespi, which opened its league play with a 56-51 upset victory over Alemany. Brandon Bolosky scored 18 points.
Friday’s Mission League schedule features Loyola at Notre Dame, St. Francis at Chaminade and Alemany at Harvard-Westlake.
