Cross country: Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda sets course record at Mt. SAC

Make way for Austin Tamagno, a junior cross country runner at Brea Olinda who established himself as one of California’s best distance runners on Saturday in setting a course record at the Mount San Antonio Cross Country Invitational.
He won his sweepstakes race in 14:23.2, breaking the old record of 14:24 set in 2005 by Diego Mercado of West Covina and tied in 2010 by Ammar Mousa of Arcadia.
Phillip Rocha of Arcadia, another junior, finished second in 14:31.7.
Palisades’ Marissa Williams ran the second-fastest time of the weekend for girls in 16:30 to win the girls’ individual sweepstakes race.
Great Oak won the boys and girls sweepstakes races.
