Football: Inspiring story on Mendota High from Fresno County
- Share via
ESPN’s SC Featured had a crew spend six months with the Mendota High School football team in Fresno County. Many of the players work in agricultural fields and come from immigrant families. Led by its coach, Robert “Beto” Mejia, the school football team has enjoyed great success.
“Negativity is a disease I want to kill,” Mejia says.
“You got to give some people that don’t have hope hope,” he tells his players.
“You’re from Mendota. So? You make us run too much. So? It’s too hot. So?”
The story will debut on ESPN’s Outside the Lines at 6 a.m. PST on Sunday and air on SportsCenter at 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
