Football: Mater Dei wins Warren passing tournament
- Share via
Santa Ana Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson tried a little experiment on Saturday for the Warren passing tournament. He let sophomore quarterback J.T. Daniels call most of the plays.
“It’s a great way to teach,” Rollinson said.
Daniels must have done quite a good job, because Mater Dei won the tournament championship, defeating Gardena Serra, 18-13, in the final.
Mater Dei received strong play from cornerback Quentin Lake and safety Xavier Bell.
Serra was missing several players, but Coach Scott Altenberg singled out receiver Kobe Smith and defensive players Bryan Addison and Al McGuire.
At Franklin High, South Gate won the passing tournament championship, defeating Carson in the final.
