UCLA defeats Stanford for seventh win in a row

Shabazz Muhammad was a dominant force in the second half Saturday when he scored 17 of his 23 points to spark the UCLA Bruins to a 68-60 victory over the Stanford Cardinal in Pac-12 Conference game at Pauley Pavilion.

Muhammad, who pulled down 10 rebounds, had one stretch after halftime when he hit a pair of jumpers, including a tough fadeaway shot, and connected on a three-pointer to help the Bruins take a 39-29 lead with 15:57 left.

UCLA maintained the double-digit lead for most of the second half to secure its seventh consecutive victory.

Jordan Adams contributed 12 points, Travis Wear added 11, Kyle Anderson had 12 rebounds and Larry Drew II finished with five points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals for the Bruins, who improved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Cardinal (9-6, 0-2) were led by Dwight Powell, who finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Chasson Randle added 17 points while John Gage had 10 points and Josh Huestis came away with 10 rebounds.

The Bruins made 21 of 51 shots (41.2%) from the field, including three of eight from three-point range. David Wear made two of three from long range to finish with eight points for UCLA. The Cardinal shot only 34.4% (22 of 64) from the field, including seven of 19 (36.8%) from behind the arc.
