Jordan Hill to have hip surgery on Wednesday

Jordan Hill, after having his injured hip reexamined, will have surgery Wednesday, the Lakers announced.
After getting a second opinion in Nashville by Dr. Thomas Byrd, the Lakers’ backup big man will have his hip repaired on Wednesday morning.
Hill was injured on Jan. 6 against the Denver Nuggets, the same game in which Pau Gasol suffered a concussion and Dwight Howard aggravated a shoulder injury.
After an initial MRI exam, a more detailed examination showed that Hill has some loose bodies in the hip and may have a torn labrum.
Hill’s initial diagnosis predicted a six-month recovery. The Lakers will issue an update after the surgery.
General Manager Mitch Kupchak recently said the Lakers have applied for a disabled player exception from the league for Hill. If awarded, the Lakers would gain an additional $1.78 million to $1.88 million in spending power via free agency or trade.
