According to the Los Angeles Sports Council, AEG President and CEO Tim Leiweke was named the 2012 sports executive of the year.
As owner of the Kings and Galaxy, AEG won both the Stanley Cup and MLS Cup in 2012. Leiweke also earned recognition for the development of Farmers Field and operations of both Staples Center and the Home Depot Center.
AEG is also a part-owner of the Lakers, though 2012 was not exactly a banner year for the organization.
The L.A. Sports Council is a nonprofit organization charged with “promoting economic development through sports in the greater Los Angeles area.”
Leiweke, who earned the honor in 2010, will be presented the award at the 8th Annual L.A. Sports Awards -- a dinner and gala to be held March 3.
AEG is currently available for sale, which would notably include its estimated 30% stake in the Lakers.
