Mets manager on struggling pitcher Matt Harvey: ‘I’m not giving up on him’

Matt Harvey had a bad outing for the New York Mets on Tuesday night.
Just like he did five nights before that.
And six nights before that.

But Manager Terry Collins told reporters Wednesday that the pitcher who had a 13-8 record and 2.71 ERA last season is keeping his spot in the Mets’ rotation.
“I’m not giving up on him,” said Collins, who later had a meeting in his office with Harvey and pitching coach Dan Warthen.
Collins’ comment came the morning after Harvey gave up five runs, including three homers, and eight hits over five innings during a 7-4 loss to Washington.
Harvey, who has given up 16 earned runs and 31 hits over his last three starts, left Tuesday night without speaking to reporters.
But Collins expressed his confidence in the 3-7 starter after the game.
“This guy is way too good to continue like this,” he said.
