USC freshmen preview: Quarterback Sam Darnold looks to make an impact

This month we will preview each USC freshman who will join the team in training camp.
Player: Sam Darnold
Position: Quarterback
Number: No. 14
Height: 6 feet 4
Weight: 215 pounds
High school: San Clemente
Hometown: Capistrano Beach, Calif.
High school: Darnold was named an Army All-American at San Clemente High. He threw for 2,996 yards and 39 touchdowns, with eight interceptions, during the 2014 season. He also ran for 785 yards and 13 touchdowns in 125 carries.
USC quarterback breakdown: The Trojans are set at quarterback for the 2015 season. Cody Kessler returns as a third-year starter, and third-year sophomore Max Browne will be the backup.
Redshirt freshman Jalen Greene will split time between quarterback and receiver.
Freshman Ricky Town and Darnold will compete for limited practice reps. Darnold likely will lead the scout team when USC prepares for opponents with dual-threat quarterbacks.
