Tours and cruises: The magic of Mayan kingdoms
- Share via
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art celebrates ancient Mayan kingdoms and contemporary culture with a post-holiday trip to Guatemala and Belize.
The tour, led by cultural anthropologist Florencio Moreno, takes place in early January, the region’s coolest month when high temperatures average in the low 70s. Several different locations serve as hubs over the course of the tour. It includes four nights at a hacienda in the center of Guatemala’s colonial city of Antigua.
In Belize, travelers will lodge at Las Terrazas Resort, a beachfront inn with snorkeling and kayaking in turquoise waters.
The museum says that days are organized in keeping with local custom to include a hearty meal in the early afternoon, called la comida, which serves as the main meal of the day for most travelers.
Dates: Jan. 3-13
Price: $4,980 per person, includes meals and lodging. Round-trip airfare to Central America not included.
