Seven-night Tahiti cruise and airfare for $3,647 a person

Small-ship line Paul Gauguin Cruises has cut sale prices by $750 on selected seven-night cruises to Tahiti. Prices start at $3,647 per person, including airfare from Los Angeles, but that rate will likely sell out quickly.
The deal: The cruise line operates Paul Gauguin, a ship named for the French artist who famously captured scenes of Tahiti on canvas. The vessel accommodates 332 guests and 217 staff members. Stops on the Tahitii & Society Islands trip include Papeete, Raiatea, Taha’a (Motu Mahana), Bora-Bora and Moorea before returning to Papeete. Cabin prices include round-trip airfare from Los Angeles.
When: The sale is good for reservations made by Oct. 8. Cruises depart March 31, April 21 and 28, and May 5.
Tested: The price chart at the cruise line’s website shows a brochure rate (I know, no one pays brochure rate) for the cheapest cabin, a porthole stateroom, of $8,795 per person. The fare went on sale for $4,397 per person and then was discounted $750 more this week. (Prices exclude taxes and fees.) I checked and found the lowest cabin prices still available on all four departure dates as of late Monday.
