Honolulu: Park Shore Waikiki water sports package starts at $199

The Park Shore Waikiki is across from Waikiki Beach and within walking distance of Diamond Head. The Oahu hotel has a water sports package that starts at $199 a night for an ocean view room while it undergoes a $10.7-million renovation. The package comes with perks for one guest: a surf or stand-up paddle lesson as well as a bike-hike tour of Diamond Head.
The deal: The Hans Hedemann Surf & Turf Package (named for the surf school) requires a minimum stay of three nights to qualify for the water sports extras. With this package, one guest will receive a two-hour group surfing or stand-up paddle lesson at the Hedemann school, one hour free rental of a surfboard or stand-up paddle board, a bike and hike Diamond Head tour and lunch, a breakfast combo at Subway restaurant and an ocean-view room. Extra guests may join for $75 per activity and per person.
When: The offer is good through Dec. 31 and based on availability.
Tested: A three-night minimum stay isn’t hard when you’re traveling to Hawaii from L.A. I found the package available for $199 a night plus tax for Oct. 5-8. (In checking dates, I found too that November is almost completely booked.) Though the goodies apply only to one guest, it’s still a nice savings for some cool activities. The same ocean-view room on the same night without the deal usually costs $209 a night plus tax.
The hotel says renovation work is scheduled between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. It’s set for completion by February.
