Daily Deal: Weekends at Fairmont Newport Beach for $99 a night

The Fairmont Newport Beach hotel turned up on Travelzoo’s Top 20 list this week -- and with good reason. The online travel company offers an exclusive $99 room rate at this AAA Four-Diamond resort that comes with free valet parking, free Internet access and a $25 spa credit.
The deal: The Travelzoo discount is good Thursdays through Mondays, perfect for long summer weekends at the upscale beach town. The cost with the extra perks is $99 a night in June and September, and $119 a night in July and August (prices exclude tax).
When: The Travelzoo offer is good through Aug. 31.
Tested: I checked on the Travelzoo booking site and found a $99 room for Thursday through Sunday and a room July 4 to 7 over the holiday weekend for $119 a night. The best available rates for the same rooms on the same nights costs $219 a night, plus $28 a night for valet parking.
Bottom line: The Travelzoo rate is a steal for a close-to-home getaway. The company recommends making a reservation by June 28 in case the deal sells out.
