Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, is making a comeback with the spring break crowd, according to statistics compiled by Kayak, an aggregator website that searches hundreds of websites.
“We looked at more than 1 billion searches and found Puerto Vallarta stood out as a trending destination,” said Jessica Casano-Anonellis, Kayak spokesperson. “Compared to the weeks before and after the spring break season, the Mexican beach city’s search share increased by 130%.”
Besides Vallarta, the other top Mexican destinations for spring break travel this year are Cancun and San Jose del Cabo.
Other international hot spots are the Caribbean, Jamaica and Turks & Caicos, according to American Express booking data.
Domestically, travelers are heading to Hawaii and Florida for sunny beach vacations. Las Vegas also scored high on the list of top destinations.
Bookings are up significantly across the board in 2013, said Lesley Trudelle, American Express Travel spokesperson. “According to our booking data, there has been a 19.6% year-over-year increase in air bookings and a 27.7% year-over-year increase in hotel bookings”
