Victims of Mosul airstrike recount day of horror

Victims injured by the strike were unsure how the government inquiries might help them. Many are facing dire prognoses after being trapped for days in the rubble-strewn neighborhood without medical treatment.

Suhaida Hussein, 19, a survivor of the Al-Jadida air strike receives treatment at the West Erbil hospital on March 17th, in Erbil, Iraq, on April 1, 2017. Suhaida Hussein, 19, was seven months pregnant with her first child, a boy, when an airstrike hit her street in West Mosul March 17. Both she and her husband were buried in the rubble, spines injured. She was unable to walk. Relatives and neighbors rescued them. “When my husband came to me, I was crying and saying ‘My son is gone’,” Hussein recalled. “He said ‘I don’t care. I just want to see you’.” Doctors who treated them said the baby was unscathed.

Jasim Muhammed survived the Al-Jadida air strike on March 17th, in Erbil, Iraq, on April 1, 2017. He broke his leg in the air strike and is recovering in the Newroz hospital.
